A huge thank you to the panel from our Songwriting Workshop on June 17 who made the event such a success! Three award-winning songwriters on the panel - Andy Penkow, The Violet Bard and Lucie Tiger - shared their experiences of songwriting and each spoke about their own unique approach and how it reflects their songwriting journey.
Andy Penkow often co-writes with leading songwriters in Australia including Lyn Bowtell, Allan Caswell, Della Harris and producer Shane Nicholson and is inspired by what all he experiences on his journey as a songwriter through life. The Violet Bard has a strong preference for different time signatures, rhythms and chord progressions; and her inspirations are myths and stories that she crafts into her own unique brand of songwriting. Lucie Tiger's signature sound features open tuning and the Blues scale, and her songs reflect her experiences travelling through the US - the places she visits and the people she meets.
The workshop, which was also live streamed, featured a Q&A session and several audience members took the opportunity to get up on stage and play an original. It was a great night despite the cold Winter weather and the latest Covid outbreak here in Sydney.
Thanks are due to the songwriting insights graciously provided by Andy Penkow, The Violet Bard and Lucie Tiger plus we are aslo grateful to our partners who supported the workshop: MoshPit Bar at Newtown, Zenn Audio and Alan Gilmour, Vice Chairman of the Australian Songwriters Association.
