Here's our 2nd Muscle Shoals Music Now column in the March/April 2024 edition of Rhythms Magazine.
In this column, Zena O’Connor catches up on Grammy-winner Gary Nichols and his extraordinary songwriting as well as his great performances with The Band Loula. You’ll also hear about the very talented, young songwriter Taylor Grace and her collaborations with James LeBlanc, Angela Hacker and Mark Narmore. Plus, there’s an update on Lucie Tiger and her cross-generational collaborations with Bob Wray, Will McFarlane, Brad Kuhn and Justin Holder, and how this has helped her bring to reality songwriting exactly how she wants it since 2019 (think Lynyrd Skynyrd meets Miranda Lambert).
We also touch on the legendary La Fonda jams and the cool bunch of musicians (including Grammy-winners Barry Billings, Jimbo Hart plus Derek Coffman who are bringing these jams back to the Shoals. Finally, we mention the weekly Fathers & Sons show every Tuesday night at FloBama which brings together legendary guitarists Will McFarlane (Bonnie Raitt) and Kelvin Holly (Little Richard) supported by Justin Holder, NC Thurman, Jimbo Hart, Jamie McFarlane, and a revolving bunch of great musicians who sit in with the band.
